Ivanka Trump is officially invited to ~werk it~ for climate justice. And all she'll have to do to join in is step outside her door.
The first daughter — and, as of Wednesday, official federal employee — has said she supports gay rights and environmental protections, but some in the LGBTQ community aren't convinced. So a queer activist collective has planned a hybrid dance party-protest outside of her Washington, D.C., home Saturday to call attention to both issues.
“We can’t let Ivanka trick our communities into supporting and legitimizing her," co-organizer Carla Aronsohn told the Huffington Post. "We will show up to her home because the bad decisions of the Trump administration hit us in our daily lives, in our homes, and the nature we surround ourselves with."
The Facebook event for the exuberant protest cites the Trump administration's executive order on energy, signed Tuesday, which directed the Environmental Protection Agency to roll back former President Barack Obama's climate regulations, as the impetus to "shake what your Mamma Earth gave ya."
The collective, led by nonprofit WERK for Peace, has put on other dance protests. In January, they danced outside of Vice President Mike Pence's home in D.C.'s Chevy Chase neighborhood. They also danced outside the Trump hotel in February.
"If Ivanka Trump isn’t gaslighting us," Aronsohn said, "then she should come into the streets and werk it!”
